A lot of you are probably wondering why I am calling myself "The Old Fart" and have a Homepage called "Welcome to Old Fart Productions" (See link under My Other Blogs and Goodies).

When I started in the field as a 35mm Film Projectionist some of the concession staff {at the last Cinema I worked in } weren't even born yet. In fact back in 2003 I was the oldest member of the staff at the age of 43. In true Ernest Hemingway form, instead of being "The Old Man and the Sea", I became "The Old Fart of the Theatre" to quote one Manager..

And as they say "The Rest Is History"
"Quotes"

"He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth." Psalm 72:8

"I am a Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, or free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind" ~ John George Diefenbaker.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is
not to utter words, but to live by them" ~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Weekend Reflections #9

The object of the game is to post a picture with a reflection, then leave a comment at "James'" Blog and his "Weekend Reflections" then link your reflection post to the McLinky within James' Blog. One has from Friday to Sunday to post a reflection.

This is a picture I took whilst I was still a Driver with the City Transit. This is looking into the mirror and gives you an idea of what a driver sees when they look back. I was driving an Articulated Bus, and if you look close you can see the point of Articulation. Hint, it is the place before the point you are to watch your step.

I Said The "C" Word Today

I said the "C" Word today, It happened whilst I was in the Mall with a friend. Let me explain.

Today is my day off. Where I am on The Night Shift my body finally took over and shut me down. I finally crawled out of bed around 1500 hrs. About an hour later I was off to the Mall to meet up with a friend. We had lunch then took a stroll around the Mall.

I ended up at "Solo Mobile" to see about upgrading my Cell Phone to the kind that has the Keyboard for texting and a better viewer for the Internet Surfing that comes with my plan. I found out that I have another year and a bit on the plan before I can upgrade my phone for next to nothing. If I had $160.00 I could have got a nice phone today, but where I am on limited funds this is for another day.

Next stop was at HMV I like to call Her Majesty's Video" {Not the real name of the store}. After a look around, there wasn't really any movie I wanted to buy even though HMV had really good buys like 2 for $20.00 and 4 films on 1 DVD for like $16.00. One DVD I almost bought was the first 4 "Police Academy" films on 1 DVD for about $16.00 but realised that I didn't care for any in the Series after the first two. But I am still thinking about going back and buying it anyway, for the price it is a steal for the first two good films.

After visiting HMV we were off {this is where I use the "C" Word} and whilst I passed a "Salvation Army" Bucket and Bell, I gave a donation. After giving my donation the fellow watching over his Bucket and Bell wished me a Happy Holiday. I immediately wished him a "Merry Christmas".

I got thinking How Politically Incorrect I was to use the word "Christmas" in public. I almost expected everyone in the Mall to come to a Screeching Halt. Yes I am being Facetious, I just don't like this time of year. The true meaning of Christmas was long forgotten for the "Almighty Dollar", or {Insert Your Own Country Currency} in lieu of Dollar.

Oh well come 1 January, 2010 things should be back to normal.

On a different note I see Thom has the newest Pictures up for "Portrait of Words" and my mind is racing already with ideas for the Continuing Story of Blanche. I somehow can't help feel that I am going to run out of ideas and will have to put Blanche "Down".

Yesterday my last bit of business with my old job came to a close. The cheque for the Pension Funds finally came. This has come in handy, as I will be able to pay off the last bit of Repayment Debt and then I'll just have the car payment and the rent and other essentials. And now that I've got the funds to pay off my repayment debt I may even be able to refinance my car loan with cheaper interest rates.

I also found out yesterday I didn't get the job with the Motor Coach company. They told me they liked me but unfortunately for me there were enough drivers with previous Motor Coach experience to apply. I was told that my file will be kept open for 3 months and if one of the other drivers don't work out then I will be called.

Maybe this happened for a reason and I am meant to be in Ontario come February.

Well must close off the post, have to be out the door in a bit to meet up with a couple of more friends for coffee. Even on my days off my "Dance Card" is always full.

Random Dozen ~ Twelve

It's time again for Linda's Random Dozen. This is the one Meme that I don't mind doing as the Questions are Right Smart ones. I don't like the ones that want to know when was the last time you ate pizza, or blew your nose or made a fart in public. I find these meme's are like a child's thoughts, not very mature.

So without further ado:

1. If you could master one sport, what would it be?
I am not big on Sports of any kind, so there really isn't any one sport I can think of that I want to Master. I say that now, but after tomorrow {I am doing this in Advance on Tuesday Afternoon set to Auto~Post} and I get reading some answers from others I'll slap my forehead and say "Dang, why didn't I think of this one".

2. When you make a major purchase, do you go with your gut instinct, or do you do research to make an informed decision?
Depends on what I am buying, the last big buy I made was my car, I needed a vehicle as my wee little truck after 15 years of reliable service decided it couldn't serve me anymore. I went to the first auto dealer I saw, took a car for a drive and ended up coming home with "The Car From Hell". I miss my little truck, and as soon as things get better I am trading this bit of crap I bought on another little truck.

3. There is an old kids' game that says you can find out what your movie star name would be by using your middle name as your first name and the name of the street you grew up on as your last. What is your movie star name?
I don't play kids games, but if I had to play ~ Never mind, my movie star name would be "Really Stupid" {You'd have to know my Middle Name and the Street I live on}. But now if I could pick any actor I'd like to be like it would either be Ronald Colman or Sean Connery.

4. Would you rather give up your favorite music or your favorite food?
Well since I really don't have a favorite food, My favorite music I love to listen to is safe.

5. There are two types of banana preferences. One is pristine yellow, almost to the point of being green; the other is spotty and more ripe. Which is your preference?
I really don't have a preference, as long as it doesn't have the Rotten Black Parts I'll eat it. I don't like the ones that are green. But I don't eat all that many bananas in a run of a year, so the question is really a Moot One.

6. Your favorite tree is?
I really don't have a favorite tree, but if I had to choose it would either be between a Maple Tree or a Popular.

7. On a scale of 1-10, how tech savvy are you?
About an 8 if I had to pick. Give me a Screw~Driver {Not the Alcoholic Flavoured One} and I can probably fix it. Give me a Pencil and Paper and ask me to balance your Cheque~Book and I'll probably have you owing the bank.

8. Has H1N1 touched your family?
Well I can't speak for my family, but for me NO. And in my Opinion I think the Media has really blown it way out of Proportion. No I am not getting the Shot either. I feel it is like the Henny Penny {Chicken Little} story, "The Sky is Falling, The Sky is Falling". Really I do.

I think if folks just took the extra precautions and washed their hands really good before they eat or make food, careful how they touch things and keep a Hand Sanitiser Close by they should be fine. I hate touching money, it is one of the dirtiest things out there. Oh I know there are some folks who have special needs that are already afflicted with some Malady that has to be aware, and getting the shot is needed.

Anyway if it is "Your Time To Go" all the flu shots in the world are not going to keep you here. And if I am wrong and happen to get it and Die, well we had our blogs.

9. Are you an analytical person, or do you just accept things the way they are without questioning or scrutinizing?
Another Depends on what the subject is about. There are some things we just got to accept, like our Faith in God and just be there to be his Vessel. Other things I ponder and wonder about. I realise also that no matter how much we think about something, well Doris Day sang "Whatever Will Be Will Be".

10. Is your personality more like that of a dog, cat, or Koala?
I think I am more like a Cat to be honest. It probably has something to do with I am owned by two cats. Some folks say that I am too independent for my own good.

11. Do you keep in touch with friends you made years ago?
No, I really don't. Well with Facebook I've met some friends from years ago, but I think if it wasn't for Facebook they would just be part of my past.

12. You are checking out at a grocery store. In the express lane, there are more people than the regular lanes, but of course, their load is less than those in the regular lanes. Which lane do you choose (assuming you qualify for the express lane) and why?
I don't worry which lane I am in, I find one that is moving and use it. Unless one of the Cashiers I know is working then I go to her lane to have a chat whilst my groceries are being rung up. Anyhoo I usually have more than the allotted amount that is allowed for the Express Lanes.

Portrait of Words # 21

"Dr John" and "Thom" host a Bi-Monthly challenge at "Portrait of Words" that allows you to compose a story with some pictures they provide. I decided to have a go and if this works, may even try again.

As the Whirly~Bird hovered over the playground, it had just moments before flown over a Trailer Park. In one run down trailer sat a Lonely Woman who only lived for her cats and a couple of other things only important to her. If she had to be a Beatles song it would probably be "Eleanor Rigby".

Blanche had a rough day at the Wal~Mart, customers were coming in complaining about everything under the sun. It was not a good day and all Blanche could think of was getting home to her Lads and her Tequila. Once she was finally home, she knew she could unwind and forget about the Snarly Folks who took things out on her.

After feeding Aloysius and Ralph, Blanche sat herself down in her ratty old Bathrobe and Pink Rabbit Slippers, Lit a smoke, and found her favorite movie playing on Turner Classic Movies; "Week-End at the Waldorf". Blanche liked this film as Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra was in it. Blanche could listen to his music and not tire of it. Her favorite Xavier Cugat piece was "Perfidia". She also had a thing for Walter Pidgeon and thought he was the best thing going since "Sliced Bread".

As the movie ran along and the Tequila started to take effect, Blanche was swept away in a Euphoria of memories. She was taken back forty something years to a time in her life when on a trip to Columbia for the Winter, she met Hector and his daughter Carmen. It may have been the Tequila but Blanche was getting all warm inside thinking of Hector.

They met in a Hammock Store, Hector was buying Carmen one for their backyard. Hector was a Widower and cherished his daughter more than anything in the world. Blanche struck up a conversation and found not only did Hector remind her of her favorite Band Leader, but had the manners of Walter Pidgeon, she immediately liked Hector.

One thing Blanche discovered was Hector loved to dance and when his wife was still alive, Hector and Maria were the Toast of Cartagena. They actually won a National Competition whilst dancing to Perfidia played by Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra.

Hector drove buses for a living, and was one of the best Operators with Cartagena's local Transit System. When Blanche found out that Hector had a special run that circled Cartagena {#73}, she jumped at the chance to ride his bus. Blanche and Hector became fast friends and spend all their free time together. Blanche visualised being Hector's "Bus Wench" for the duration of her stay in Columbia.

Hector was quite the Tour Guide and felt that he had found a good friend in Blanche. They explored the places off the beaten path and Blanche got quite enchanted with the Cartagena most never got to see.

One place that Hector took Blanche to, was the Church he and Maria got Married in. Hector was beginning to come to Love Blanche and thought this trip to the Church would cement his future with her.

Blanche had feelings for Hector as well, felt that even Carmen was beginning to like her, but was a bit hesitant on following her heart as she was burned on more than one occasion.

One fellow that meant a lot to her but betrayed her was a Cad named Harold. He promised Blanche the world but only delivered Dog Patch. Blanche didn't know if Hector truly loved her, or was only confusing his Memories of Maria with his friendship with her.

Blanche told Hector she'd have to think about her feelings, and told him that for a couple of days they would have to spend the time apart. Blanche believed that if she had a couple of days away from Hector she'd know for sure if she Truly Loved him or only had a Sisterly kind of Love for him.

After a couple of days away from Hector, Blanche realised that her Mother was right. Hortense was well respected when she was alive and raised a fine daughter in Blanche. Blanche was sure that one of her Mum's favorite sayings; "Absent Makes the Heart Grow Fonder" applied here.

Blanche was off to find Hector and his #73. She had come to a decision and was eager to share it with him. Blanche decided to accept Hector's offer of Marriage and was as excited as a Giddy Schoolgirl to tell him. Blanche even came to love Carmen and knew in time that she would come to maybe not truly love her, but accept Blanche as a friend.

Blanche met up with Hector and told him that she would be his "Bus Wench" for life, and become his Wife and Step Mother to Carmen. Hector was ecstatic that Blanche was going to be his wife, and had to let her in on his Secret ~ Hector had to tell Blanche he was actually Maria before he/she had the Surgery.

Next thing the telephone is ringing, Blanche is jolted back to the moment and answers the phone. Her memories of Hector, Carmen, Cartagena and Hector's Secret would have to be for another day.
